Comhdhálacha ›› Maths Counts 2019

Maths Counts is back for 2019 and we’re changing up the format in response to the needs of maths teachers – as identified by you – the maths teachers of Ireland.

Some things won’t change though. As in previous years, we’ll have a world-recognised expert in mathematics education provide the keynote address. This year it’s Prof. Jeremy Hodgen, Chair of Mathematics Education at University College London. Professor Hodgen will speak about a recent study he led, which focused on “What is the evidence regarding the effectiveness of different strategies for teaching mathematics?”. Professor Hodgen’s has also recently led research investigating low attainment in mathematics. It will be interesting to hear his views on maths teaching and learning. We’ll also have our Lesson-Study showcase. This year you’ll hear from teachers involved in Lesson Study through our poster exhibition and interactive workshops. The PDST Post-Primary Maths team will provide input in the form of teaching and learning workshops covering the five strands of the Leaving Certificate syllabus and we’ll be joined by some of our PDST primary colleagues who’ll present workshops on teaching and learning of mathematics in fifth and sixth class.

Due to phenomenal interest we’ve had to close registration for Maths Counts. If spaces become available in the coming weekes we will re-open registration.
