MathsMeet 22

MathsMeet 2022 was a joint conference organised by PDST, JCT and the IMTA in Maynooth University on Saturday October 15th 2022. The purpose of the conference was to promote the study of Maths and to share best practice. We had an exciting programme, including a keynote address by Ed Southall (teacher and author of “Yes, But Why” and “Geometry Snacks”), workshops by Maths teachers, PDST, JCT and invited guests, exhibits by education providers and much more. Conference packs with classroom resources were given to all who attend on the day. After three years of meeting online, this was an opportunity  to reconnect, chat, collaborate, learn and have fun.

Mathsfest 2020 (Online)

Mathsfest, organised by the IMTA with input from PDST, took place on Saturday, 28th of November 2020. Keynote speaker Craig Barton gave a talk on student misconceptions. Workshops on a variety of topics including Complex Numbers and Statistics were showcased at this event.

Féilte 2020 (Online)

FÉILTE took place on Saturday, 3rd of October with the theme ‘Collaborating to Connect: Empathy with our Communities’. There were inputs from teachers sharing best practice, including input from PDST and teachers on  Understanding the Need for Algebra and on Lesson Study  and  Collaboration.

Maths Counts 2019

Maths Counts 2019 was held in Athlone Institute of technology on Saturday 6th April 2019. Keynote speaker Prof. Jeremy Hodgen and Teaching and Learning Methodology Workshops were among the highlights for this event.

Maths Counts 2018

Maths Counts 2018 was held in UCD on Friday the 11th and Saturday the 12th of May. A live lesson taught by visiting keynote Prof. Tad Watanabe along with three showcase lessons from Irish teachers made this a memorable event.

Maths Counts 2017 was held at Maynooth University on the evening of Friday 3rd March and Saturday 4th March 2017. Professor Akihiko Takahashi again provided a demonstration of teaching a live structured-problem-solving lesson. This year there was also the special addition of Irish Maths teachers teaching to a live audience.

Maths Counts 2016

Maths Counts 2016 took place on Friday evening, April 22nd and Saturday 23rd April at UCD, Belfield.  Keynote speaker, Professor Akihiko Takahashi, a world-renowned expert in teaching mathematics through problem solving, wowed teachers and students alike in teaching a class of first-years live at the conference.

Maths Counts 2015

Maths Counts 2015 took place at UCD on the 17th and 18th of April. Central to the conference, were the presentations made by teachers involved in the Reflections on Practice initiative on teaching and learning mathematics in post-primary schools. Other significant developments dealt with at the conference which are at the core of professional practice at post-primary level were: the relation between Summative and Formative assessment, Key Skills and the Literacy & Numeracy strategy.

Maths Counts 2013

Maths Counts 2013 was held on the 15th and 16th of November 2013 in the National University of Ireland, Maynooth. A wide range of practical presentations were offered by teachers. The teachers’ presentations arose from schools’ participation in a professional development initiative.
